Just wondering how others have mounted their heat box. My -4 currently has a triangular heat box mounted vertically pretty much in the center of the firewall just above the middle of the footwells. The scat tubing from the heat muff enters the heat box from the bottom.
The heat box I have does not have a bypass door so when the cabin heat is not in use, the hot air has nowhere to go which I understand is not good for the exhaust system. Summertime also results in a fairly warm firewall.
I just purchased a new heat box with a bypass door which would fit where my current one is placed. If I install it the same way, with the scat tubing at the bottom, the hot air will be blown upward when cabin heat is not used (summertime) Should that be a concern? Installing it sideways or upside down (relative to my current setup) would mean moving stuff around on my firewall.
Advice on your setup is appreciated.
