Doing my condition inspection yesterday, my ACK E-04 406 MHz ELT failed to trigger during the shake test. We then tried tapping it with a rubber mallet to simulate the needed 10 Gs. Still nothing.

The unit was manufactured 29 May 2012. I'm pretty sure my ACK has a bad 10 G switch, so I'm going to give the company a call tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm curious if anybody else had this problem before?

This is one of those important things that's really good to catch on a condition inspection. It would also be easy to miss if not carefully following a good inspection checklist.

Don't know how applicable it might be, but the way I impose a high g load on my different ELT is to hold it in my hand and swing it sharply down at full arm's length.

Triggers it every time.
