I can't get the arinc side of the grt horizon and the gtn 650 to communicate.

I have the arinc module wired to serial 2 on the horizon, and rs232 from the 650 to serial 10. I can see a counter populating on serial 10, but NOTHING on serial 2/ arinc. The 650 gives the "LNAV Unavailable no Barometric press" warning, and when I go into the arinc menu the "efis format" options aren't available. Any ideas?

Arinc adapter wired to 650:
C1- connector p1001 pin 10
C2- connector p1001 pin 29
C3- connector p1004 pin 24
C4- connector p1004 pin 23
C5- connector p1001 pin 47
C6- connector p1001 pin 66

Update: I had wires flipped in the GRT A connector and remedied that: no longer any error messages grt/arinc side. However on the 650 side: still get the "Barometric Altitude Lost " message and still can't set ARINC In 2 to EFIS FORMAT 2, the option isn't even available.

What options does the 650 show for ARINC input 2?
Mine is wired like yours, HXr pin 5 to GTN 47 and HXr pin 9 to GTN pin 66 and both are set to ARINC In 2 A&B to EFIS FRMT 2

I'll verify when I get to the hangar in a few hours, but I know it allows the data concentration, traffic formats, ahrs, pretty much everything EXCEPT EFIS formats.

I've put it to various other options and verified in the gtn diagnostic page that it is transmitting/ receiving information.

I had what I *think* is a problem similar to yours. I had about the same setup in my 8 and it worked. I am familiar with Widgets setup and it works. So I was puzzled why I could get it work in one place and not another.
"ProTip" ... The ORDER in which you make the settings in the 650 for serial vs ARINC is important. Go back and turn the serial settings OFF, do the SERIAL and then go back and do the ARINC.

I think that that solved MAKING the settings for me.

This fixed it, now they're talking to each other, thank you!

Any chance you know how to fix the "VNAV: Unavailable: Barometric altitude lost" error on the 650? I figured the efis would send the info over

Still trying to solve the problem you mention. I have a 10.4 HXr with a 650 on my 8 (like Widget). No problem.
I have a 625 with a 10.1 on my 6 and I get the error message on the Garmin. I have talked with Garmin people but no joy so far. They helped me sort the sequence issue when an engineer deep inside overheard my issue being discussed. Several people there had not experienced it. It MAY say somewhere in the documentation bit I missed it. I will share the VNAV "fix" when I find it and I ask you to do likewise.

Thanks!

I cleared the previous error! After deep diving in garmin manuals I found the below table specifying that each input on the 650 can only have one output source: i had two horizon 10.1's spliced together into the arinc module, so I de-pinned the backup and the error cleared. Guess that means I would need a second arinc module if I wanted redundancy? 20240902_042521.jpg
