I understand that there are 2 types of grove gear for the 8. One with an airfoil and one that is "unfoiled" aluminum.

Can you use the airfoiled gear on a 8 and/or an 8A?

Is the airfoil made for the angle of attachment that a tail-dragger provides?

Is the diffrence in angle of attack of the gear nominal and thereby unaffected (or not of consequence) when installed in the tricycle configuration?

-thanks

The Grove gear is only for the -8. The -8A uses the rod gear that the rest of the RV series uses.

The differences between the airfoil gear vs. standard is the shape. With the standard gear you would still use the fiberglass fairings that Van's provide. With the airfoil shape you would not use the fairing. The standard version is lighter than the airfoil shape design.

We have the airfoil gear on our RV8 which is almost done. After we polished it, it really stood out and looked great. HIghly recommend using the gear.

Jason,

This is the aluminum Grove airfoil type gear designed as a bolt-on solution to replace the heavier steel landing gear included with the standard RV-8 kit. The landing gear readily accepts paint or polish as you prefer. The upper intersection fairings are out of the box as delivered from Fairings-Etc.
