I purchased the Gretz mount for the Pitot. This is not made of aluminum, so I assume that I should prime it before installing it. If it should be primed, then what should I use? Akzo, SEM, etc?

thanks

Powder coat

that is a good idea. I think that is what I will do as well.

I had all the parts done after it was fitted. I had to adjust to adjust the wing hole just a bit due to the thickness of the coating but it looks great. The Vans color is Cardinal GR230.

You can buy the Van's powdercoat color in spray cans from Cardinal (but they have a minimum order of 6 or 12 cans). I bought a bunch and gave them out to fellow builders for various touch-up or small paint jobs.

Any powdercoating place should have that color in stock, too. I had my instrument panel powdercoated to match...came out great.

ETA: be advised that Van's "white" is not white. It's grey. So if you're going to paint the plane with white basecoat, you may wish to just let the paint shop do the pitot tube mast, as well...or it won't match.
