I was just reading through the on line edition of the April "Kitpanes", and Dave Prizio's article on engine selection is one of the most readable primers on the various Lycoming models and features I have ever seen. While many have looked at the detailed table that Lycoming publishes on what each of the various prefixes, suffixes, and magic numbers mean, Dave actually talks about Wide and Narrow decks, Angle and Parallel valves, and the rest of the secret lingo that experienced folks throw around and that might mystify the uninitiated. Yeah, if you hang around these conversations, you'll pick it all up the hard way (like we all did) - or you can read this article and be instantly more knowledgeable!
