Garmin has discontinued it's GNC-250 GPS/COM. Anyone know of a similar unit that is not the WAAS capable, IFR certified garmin units (expensive, heavy) or the woefully old Bendix/King KLX-135? Seems there is a gap now for those that just want a low cost VFR GPS/COM and a transponder...

I have the Garmin FNS-300XL non-waas unit. It is an IFR certified GPS/Comm but I use the VFR -250XL data updates to keep it mostly current. I bought it used from a local avionics shop very reasonably. For some reason (cost of IFR updates probably) the -300 units are cheaper than the -250s. Dan

Mike (or anyone else), how does one update the SL60 data base? I'm inheriting a SL60 but without the file management software referenced in the manual that is used to upload fresh data to the unit (and so presumably, that's also the software that downloads new data from a vendor). Where would you suggest I start...?

Many thanks!
