Reserved my N-number via the FAA website a few weeks ago ($10). Received a letter today from the FAA, sent to my home address mind you, stating that the number I want to be reserved is available and will be reserved but they need my address to complete the process.

I'm not sure if this is funny or sad.

I think its funny :)

I've had a reserved N number for 4 years. I get a tax bill every year from the county.

You need to ask the county what you're getting taxed on. You shouldn't get a tax bill unitil you pull the trigger on registering the actual airplane. Any joe-blow with $10 can reserve an N-number; you don't need ANYTHING even resembliing an airplane or airplane part to get one. I've had an N-number reserved for about that long and Kern County hasn't said a word. They usually don't miss a trick when it comes to taxes. I'm paying property tax on the city-owned land I lease for my hangar.
