One of the nice things about a 40 hour test period is you have plenty of time to explore all the airports within a particular radius ;)

Put this one in your data bank: Vaiden Field (A08), Marion Alabama. Marion is NW of Selma (Craig Field) in west central Alabama. Ex-USAF jocks of a certain age will remember Vaiden. It was a 10,000 ft jet strip in the middle of nowhere.

The town is probably best known for the Marion Military Institute: http://www.marionmilitary.edu/

If you look about mid-page you'll see a reference to a new flight training program for the cadets......which brings us to our story.

A group of sharp guys got together and brought Vaiden back from the dead. They have now repaved 5000 ft of the old 10K, installed both avgas and jet fuel, and mentor cadets at the airport twice a month. Nice work.

As for you, fuel is currently $3.95 p/gal. Might want to watch for their price postings when you schedule a cross-country down our way. Tell Bill Hansen (airport director and retired Marine) I said hello.

Of course you're always welcome at Wetumpka (08A), currently $4.10.
