I've had this for a while. When transmitting on freqs at the low end of the band, 118.1 to 119.5 approximately, the range seems to be significantly shorter.
I can hear everyone on the freq including ATC but they are unable to hear me until I get to within about 10 miles. Altitiude doesn't seem to matter and the radio works fine on the higher freqs...
Not being a radio geek I am curious if this could be pinned down to one component.

Thanks

This really sounds like an antenna problem. If the antenna is narrow band and cut for the middle of the band, range will taper off at the lower and upper ends of the band. Maybe you need a more broad band antenna. Are you using a steel "rod" antenna? Broad band antennas are typically larger in diameter.

antenna

Yes Mel, it is a rod antenna about 2 feet long. Can you or someone else suggest a better one?

Tx problem

As a followup...
Had a new Comant 122 installed before flying back up north. Problem solved. Not sure what was wrong with the old antenna but the all good now.
Thanks
