I have a GDL39 that stopped receiving the ground stations. Has anyone else run into this and have any idea what to try next?

I have updated the software and that did not seem to fix it, I even tried it less than 4 miles from an ADS-B tower.

Garmin says it is out of warranty and they charge a $350 flat rate repair fee to even look at it. This seems ridiculous considering a new one is only $599.

Sounds like Garmin....... I really hate their flat rate repair system.

Well, if you are brave and have some electronics skills..... open it up.
So often, when I bench check avionics.... it is really simple.
Use a meter and make sure the voltages are getting where they are supposed to.
Make sure the antenna signal is actually getting to the board.
All done with a simple digital voltmeter.
Has it been sitting in the sun on the dash? Heat can kill components.
I just zip tie mine below the panel and use a simple transponder antenna on the belly. It stays cool that way. Freeze spray, available at Fry's can be used on the boards while powered up.... to see if a component is failing due to heat.
If, after all.... it won't work... then let Garmin fix it. Or buy another one.
Not fair, I know.

Good idea about the antenna connection, I will give that a try. It is communicating with the Ipad and the GPS signal is working from it.

We mostly use it in our Cessna 140 and it does not sit in the sun very often.
