My Garmin SL30 was professionally wired. I has been installed in the aircraft for some time now. I have tested it several time with no problems.
Today I fired up the panel and the SL30 is giving a "Comm Fail" message.

Anyone know how to clear this message and why I may be getting it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeff,

does "Comm Fail" show in the sl-30 screen or something that it connects to ie Gps or Efis ?

Sounds like an rs-232 problem to me.

SL-30 comm failure

I had this once. Removed the unit from the tray and reseated it. Problem went away. You might even press on the corners before you remove the unit to see if it reseats.

I spoke with my avionics tech today. He informed me that the "Comm Fail" message being displayed was likely due to the radio now being seated firmly in the tray, the antenna being disconnected or a lack of power going to the comm side of the radio.
I checked all of these items. Everything was hooked up properly. He has suggested that I send the radio to him for a bench test.
I will let everyone know how this turns out.
Thanks for the help.

I got the same message and found that I had disconnected the power to the comm side.

Maybe too obvious but did you check the circuit breakers? My panel has individual breakers for the comm and nav sides.
