I have been using the audio from myGarmin 696 input through my Garmin audio panel for a few months and the quality of the alerts and XM music are good. With the recent update to Foreflight's audio warning for runway incursions I thought I would just put a splitter in line and connect both the Garmin 696 and iPad to the same audio input, this way I could monitor both sources without changing the inputs. I did just this last weekend, and I the audio from the 696 didn't change, but the ipad audio is very distorted, even at lower volume levels. Is the ipad competing with the 696 now that they share the same input?

Any suggestions to improve the quality?

You will need at a minimum a passive mixer made out of resistors.
