After years of trouble free service, my 530w started developing static during reception. It's just heavy static on the carrier, to the point that I can barely hear the voice. As soon as the transmission stops, so does the static. This came on suddenly, over the course of a 45 minute flight.
I checked all the cables and connections, tried a different antenna, and reracked the unit. After rerack it worked ok for about a minute but after keying the mic a couple times the static returned. I wasn't able to duplicate the situation. I tried pulling circuit breakers for the rest of the equipment in the plane and no difference. When I turn off the intercom it goes through to my headset and the static is still there.
I have a feeling the problem is in the 530, but before I swallow a flat rate repair I just want to see if there might be something else I'm missing?
