I hooked my Garmin 396 to my Garmin 430. RS 232 out in aviation mode on the 430 and tie into the yellow wire on the power/data cable on the 396 with the 396 set to "aviation in". This will allow you to put a destination or flight plan in the 430 and it will pull it across to the 396...no entering info twice.

I am sure most knew this...but I found too handy a feature to not pass on.
