FWIW, I just returned from a trip Reno-Denver-Reno and averaged just under 6 gph fuel consumption over about 15 hours flying time. Average cruise speed was about 165 mph TAS at altitudes between 10500 and 15500. I'm running abut 25-50 degrees LOP, just enough to cause a 10-20 rpm drop. Very happy with this result.

cheers,

Very Nice!

Greg,

That is right about where I run with my -9A. Not the fastest, but very thrifty! Hard to argue with 28mpg!

The "Sweet Spot" on fuel vs. speed

It sounds like we have all settled into the sweet spot for power vs fuel economy. Those power settings at those altitudes give almost equal EGT's on all four cylinders in my RV-9A. O-320-D1A, Hartzell CS prop, ONE LSE Plasma III and one Slick Mag. My Hobbs total time is now at 270.6 hours.
