I started making some fuel drain fairings last summer. I finally finished them and test flew today. I didn't expect much and I got less. The speed previously established for the test configuration (tip tanks and short tips) without the fairings was 179 mph. The test today achieved 178.2 mph.

While all these little changes may not add any speed by themselves, I have always wondered if the sum of such changes is greater then the total.

Meaning that all the little changes you have made might add up to a noticable change.

If you are like me I'm still trying to loose the 5 pounds I gained since Thanksgiving. Maybe that is it? Colder air?

I've got a better idea

I'm thinking now of cutting the fairings down to the height of the threaded boss, shape them to round the edges, cut the solid brass plugs down to the height of the boss, saw a screwdriver slot in the back of the plug to facilitate removal and cover with a adhesive disc.
