Although the fuel cap flange T-406 has a slight bend on front/back edges, it doesn't fit tight to the inside of the skin on the sides. I've got my ribs cleco'd in place so the skin follows the rib contour.

Should the flange front/back be filed down or bent further to fit tight or just squeeze the skin to fit the flange? Seems that bending the skin to fit the flange would leave a depressed area around the cap.

Hope this wasn't a stupid question but I couldn't find any previous posts on it.

Thanks for any assistance!

Yes, you should work the flange to get as good a fit as possible. On the "real" early kits, we had top do quite a bit of "fitting."

Thanks

Thanks, Mel

I'm certainly not building any show plane but don't want to make stupid mistakes either. Hat's off to those who finished the early kits!

Van's other fuel caps

True some assembly required!

My last RV-9A I used the $100 fuel caps and was very happy with both the fit (they are machined) and the function.
