I got Flightsoft running on Ubuntu Linux yesterday using Wine. Everything I tried seems to work except "help". I still need to use windows in-flight because Linux doesn't seem to have drivers for my touch screen. I have a windows partition for that.

I did all the updates to maps & approaches from linux, then use "Luckybackup" to update the installation on the windows partition. I haven't figured out how to make both windows & linux point to the same files (maps etc) so I have to do this extra step.

Flightsift views the Linux (Wine) installation as a different computer, so it requires a different update code than the windows partition.

The advantage of all this is that I can keep working in Linux until I shut down to go to the Airport. Much more streamlined

Also, EmperorLinux sells linux tablets
http://www.emperorlinux.com/systems/tablet/

So I may be getting one so I can use linux in flight.

For some reason it doesn't show up in the "programs" section of the wine menu. However, FS can be found by browsing the "C:" drive from the wine menu. I put a link to "/home/steve/.wine/drive_c/WinFS" on the desktop for easier access

Update with Ubuntu 10.04

The touch screen on my HP tx2-1370us suddenly started to work after the update,
no more windows during flight

"right click" touch screen functionality still doesn't seem to work.
