Should the firesleeve on oil & fuel lines be sized to the hose and slipped on before the fittings are attached? Or, do you use firesleeve that has a large enough ID to fit over the fittings of an assembled hose?

I can't seem to locate this info in 43.13 or the forums.

Thanks much!

Be sure to take into account any bend in the hose. If you cut the firesleeve to the length of the straight hose, it'll come up short when the hose gets bent.

Normally sized firesleeve will slide over the fittings.

Mel,
So, if the hose has an OD of 0.5" an Aeroquip AE102-8 1/2" has enough stretch to go over the hex 'points' of a fitting that are 3/4" across? Or, should I go with something with larger ID...3/4" ??

Steve, Thanks for the heads-up on that. Could have been an expensive "gotcha".
Thanks,

You're right Gil, after I got to looking at the chart I see that a -6 hose would need the 3/4" ID firesleeve and would slide over the fittings just fine.
I tend to "over-think" things a lot...especially when they're at $9.50/ft.

Thanks,
