I am finalizing my FAB installation. I followed Van's directions regarding 1/4" clearance between the extended Cowl outlet and the FAB inlet. However, when I was researching options for installing the seal strips, I noticed several members here advocating a 3/4" clearance.

I am wondering what the recommended clearance is for this interface.

FAB to cowl inlet clearance

1/2 to 5/8" spacing for ease of cowling installation. Also gives rubber seal more 'flex' which will hopefully reduce stress on the FAB unit (& reduce the tendancy for cracks forming in the mounting plate)

I'm at that stage too, and 1/4" seems tight to be able to muscle that top flap past the intake snorkel. Good thing that fiberglass trims easily (but harder to build it back up if you cut off too much!!).
