As some of you probably know, Mark Frederick, F1Boss on this forum, is close to restarting a limited production run of the F1 rocket with the Evo wing. This will be a slightly redesigned aircraft with most of the changes affecting the wing--now carbon fiber and with improvements in weight and CG. The other major change is the availability of a retractable gear option.

I, along with several others, have given firm commitments to Mark for one of these aircraft (retract for me, thank you very much). Mark has put a lot of thought into these changes and this looks to be a truly epic aircraft. However, he needs more people on-board before he can progress from the design to the production stage.

I'll leave it to Mark to chime in and disseminate the details regarding price, timeline, etc.

If you are interested, contact him so we can get this moving forward! I can't wait to get my hands on one of these kits.

Here is the kind of performance that you can expect from a clean EVO. The new wing with less weight and drag should be even better.
This picture was taken on my recent trip to Mark Fredrick's F1 home at Taylor Texas, T74.
The ground speed of 182 knots is not that impressive, until you note the 31 knots of headwind!!!!

free ( :) )advice

It would be nice if there was an Evo wing with a center section to fit a -7 fuselage. Before I started my -7, I looked at the marketing mockup of the side-by-side version that was at OSH a number of years ago. Probably would have been a buyer if a slow-build kit (at an affordable price) had been available.

An Evo wing kit that would mate to Van's fuselage kits would have been very welcome.

Agreed.

I wonder if anyone has thought about that???:D Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it? Somebody with imagination ought to do that....considering the fact that the Evo 2 will have a centersection assembly that fits into the fuse 1st (think 3 piece wing assembly), do ya think that application ever came up in casual conversation? Nah.....

Such a mod would NOT increase the ship's existing Vne, but it would make it easier to bust it. Just sayin'...

Carry on!

Could you imagine a -7 with an EVO wind and retract gear.......cooooolll.

Would love to see a drawing of it.

So, what's the status on the F1 Rocket?

I'm almost finished with my RV-8 empennage, nearing purchasing the next portion of my kit... but I'd sure like to build a Rocket if it was available. Any words?
