Hey guys

Engine is Lycoming o-320 160hp carb running AVGAS with 4 into 2 vetterman exhaust.

I am seeing at the two exhaust tips what looks like lead crystals forming, imagine looking at ice crystals in a freezer forming long spikes. Well the spikes past the exhaust tip is only about 2/16 long max.

Is this normal?
I forgot to take a picture

Engine is making great power and only has 200hrs since rebuild.

Too much rich running?

One other significant contributor is the refinery supplying your Avgas. They use more TEL than the other one in Australia due to a lower spec alkylate. ;)

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply, I will grab a picture next time, but don't think it's serious, I was just more curious😃

BTW what is TEL?
