There are only 5 RV4's flying in South Africa and none with my setup, so I would appreciate some comments from across the pond.:D:D

I have been drilling holes in the sky at 175+kts for 3 years in my RV4 (IO-360 with CS Hartzel prop) all over Southern Africa. Range is then around 3.5hrs on the 32 gal tanks, but it pretty much at full bore 21"MP, 2500RPM (red line 2700) and around 9gals/hr. Usually at around 7000 ft (which is 1500" to 2000' AGL)

Recently I spoke to a RV7 driver with 42 gal tanks and O-360 who tells me he gets 7.5hrs endurance. Is this possible? It then transpires he cruises at 18" and 2200RPM. Kinda defeats the object of having RV for me (Speed).

Question is thus - what is your preferred cruise setting and why?
(RV model, Eng, Prop, Rpm, MP, Fuel flow and speed)

Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Run hard

Hi George,
I usually run 2500-2600 RPM and WOT at 7500 and get very close to 200 MPH in my -6A at this 70%. At 2700/WOT, it yields 202MPH true with 9.7 GPH fuel burn. That 7.5 hours endurance? HMMMM....

Regards,

George,

I have an RV-8 with an IO-360A3B6D with dual LS electronic ignition and a whirlwind 200C prop. At 8000', 2500 rpm, about 22.5 in mp and if I lean to peak I'll burn just shy of 9 gph and true 176kts. I've found that if I decrease to 2300 rpm where I prefer to cruise the mp will go down to around 22 in with about 8.5 gph and 170kts.
