Just went through the same decision as you for my -9. Talked to Bart at Aerosport and he said go dynafocal 1 and vertical induction and that would cover most of my options for the -9. Could use a conical, he said, but he could just as easily, and cheaply, get my a Dynafocal. Since you probably have a greater range of engine choices for the -8, it may be different but talking to an engine person, Bart or otherwise, might help you make your decision. The disadvantage of having Van's hold the engine mount and cowling is that that would make for yet another expensive shipment to you later. good luck.
