I have searched the forum and could not find a discussion on the subject.
Surely someone else has run into this problem.
Engine O-320-D2G with Bendix RSA 5AD1 servo and a Vans
VA-182 contol cable bracket between servo and sump.
All the cables I have tried are too long. When I put them through the
hole in the bracket, where the two lock nuts hold it on the engine bracket,
the end of the rod is way pass the control arm on the servo.
If I put on a rod end and bolt it to the, say mixture arm, the treads on the
outer cable are nowhere near the bracket and if I go ahead and pull the
mixture knob out, I have almost two inches of shaft showing at the panel.
Looks like I have the engine leaned way back.
Throttle and Prop control are the same way. If I didn't know better, you
would think the panel was mounted too close to the firewall.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
There has to be something I am too dumb to know about airplane
cables to make this work.
Your help appreciated.

Sumps

There are two sump versions, one with an aft mounted carb.

and a forward mounted carb

Normally the aft mounted carb doesn't work with a -A model, but I'm not sure about a -9A and you are using FI anyway.

The 2 inch difference does look like the carb. location difference in the two pictures.

Bert, do you have any photos you could share?

I may have the same model Bendix and it was not compatible with the "standard" orientation and the bracket that came from Vans. The mixture and throttle arm rotation is reversed, so I had to modify the bracket, effectively extending the arms and mount the servo backwards, ie., throttle on left side, mixture on the right.

When Don at Airflow rebuilt my servo he provided me with the last piece of the puzzle to make my installation work, which was an offset mixture arm.

Modified bracket:

Forward Sump

Gil, I have the forward sump judging from the photos.
Nate, my mix and throttle are just like yours.
Here is a photo from mix side. As you can see, the treads on the
outside of the cable are just touching the bracket and the end of the
cable is already past the mix are, without the rod end piece.

Added a Good Amount

Nate it looks like you added about 3" on the throttle side and about
1.5" on the mix side. That's about what I measured. Did you use
some 4130 for the extensions?
I am in the same shape on the prop control bracket.
Thanks for pic, it's always good when someone else has done what you
are thinking.
