I would like to test my starter, starter contactor and related wiring. Will it damage the starter if I engage it without the flywheel installed?

Careful

I'm sure that I don't have to remind you but that thing produces a lot of torque - recommend that you have it securely tied down on on the engine before you start it - you don't want it to get loose and move or fall!! As a boy, we tried to 'test' a starter and it squirrled around a lot. Live and learn for us.

Bolted to the engine...

Yup, it's bolted to the engine, so it didn't go anywhere.

Just turned on the master and engaged the starter for the first time. It works! Very cool!
