I've seen a pull hinge pin wire on one - are they all like that? Anyone tried it before?

What happens if the normal latch opens in flight?

RV-4 canopy release

The design is such that when closed, a spring holds some tension to the engagement / lock mechanism( push tube pins at front and rear of canopy). A secondary safety devise(notched blade down into canopy rail) also requires a fairly substancial push on the de-lock handle to actually allow the canopy to open. This prevents simply bumping it open. The piano hinge on the R/H side is soft aluminum, with soft aluminum pop rivets securing it. In the event you would need to exit the plane in flight, opening the canopy will result in the hinge seperating from the canopy rail and the unit lifts up and away.
