Was just informed by a friend that effective 1 Feb 2009 that to operate in Canada you will be required to have a 406mhz ELT. Has anyone else heard this? Is it applicable to the Bahamas as well?

I don't know if the Canadian mandate is effective or in proposal stage. Some have asked for exemptions for US aircraft so hang on. That may change. I have heard nada about the Bahamas.

AOPA may have useful info on this subject. Personally, that mandate will just keep me out of Canada.
