I have an already flying -8 and am working to lighten it up a bit and move the cg aft. The ELT is mounted in the aft baggage compartment, but I am thinking of relocating it to the rear of the fuselage, on the 'shelf' between the forward and aft spars of the HS . Has anyone mounted one there? Any issues? I have an ACK E-01 ELT, and it will fit in the space fine. One concern is that if someone (not me of course ) hit the tailwheel somewhat hard in a landing could this set the ELT off? Relocating the ELT there would move the cg about 0.5" aft. Every little bit helps....

I had my Pointer brand ELT and it's antenna back there on my 8. No problems. It was a every tight fit -- not sure how other brands compare in size.
