First flight coming soon on a local 9A with IO-320 & Hartzell. Can anybody tell me what your 9A elevator trim tab deflection looks like when plane is trimmed properly for takeoff.

Mine is 1/2 turn nose down, giving my vy of 85 kts once the climb stabilizes. That yields a trim tab that is just barely out of trail with the rest of the elevator. Hope this helps.

I usually take off with the trim tab centered (perfectly in trail with elevator), and once well off the ground I dial in just a small bit of nose down trim to maintain my preferred climb speed.

I feel this method makes it a little easier to get the nose wheel off the ground and hold it there than if I pre-dial in the nose down trim. I also take off with flaps equal to full down aileron deflection though (another discussion, search the forums if interested). I don't think you'll go wrong with the tab centered for takeoff.

Trim tab

Hey Don,
Like Kurt mine is level with the elevator for my 9.
Landing is always down (trim up).
This must be for Bert. I thought he would be flying by now.
You should be getting close too.
