I have a sporadic crackling in my headset under high power setting, goes away almost completely with low power setting. If I kill alternator field it goes away completely. Probably a diode or noise filter problem but I don't where to start. Any suggestions?

Bump, will the alternator filter that ACS sells remedy this problem? It is not a hum, just a sporadic crackle at high power setting.

Check and see if you have a ignition cable rubbing/breaking down somewhere.. At high rpm's might be an ingition spark to ground..?? Could show up as a cracking noise in the audio system...

If it is caused by an ignition wire breaking down I could almost guarantee your engine would run rough at the same time.

Sound like placing noise filter on the alternator is a good place to start. Did this just start out of the blue or has it always been there?

Just started so I something has changed or gone bad. Thanks for the info, I'll check the ignition wires.
