Started having an issue with the EGT's on my number 3 yesterday.

RV-9A with IO-320 about 400 hours TT.

Cruising along at at 7500 feet LOP and the EGT would bound up and down bout 200-300 degrees.

I pulled to probe today and there is nothing obviously wrong with it.

Bad probe? Or something else?

Thanks,

-Dan

Depending on the vendor and vintage, some EGT probes have a problem with the pigtail connectors.

Before buying a new probe, you can try replaceing the pigtail connectors.

I keep a spare probe in the hangar as they do go bad from time to time.

Replacing EGT Probes....which one?

I used my existing EGT probes when doing my panel upgrade to the G3x. They are the type K that came with my Dynon and have lasted about 600 hours. From what I read, that is a good life. My #2 is going whacky and I already replaced the connector thinking that was the problem. Not so. My question is.... with all the various type K probes I see on ACS website, which one to get? I plan on replacing all 4 and would like any input as to which ones people have experience with.
Thanks,
David

All of our Dynon probes have burned out after 400 hours - just replaced them all.

Correct placement and we run to standard temps when leaning.

When we had strange readings I queried it with Dynon and they said they wear out.
