I have a D180 and am wondering if I can use the pickup from a VM1000
that plugs into the mag direct for that signal?

I'm not sure what the output of that sender is. As long as it pulses something like 12V, it would work. If it pulses 5V, it won't.

The D180 can hook right to your p-leads though, so senders aren't generally required unless you have certain electronic ignitions. It has two p-lead inputs so you don't drop your RPM reading during the mag check.
