I plan on ordering the fast track trays that mount right behind the skyviews. And on there website it shows the adhrs mounted on the tray to. I asked them about interference issues and they said it should be fine. So I plan on installing my adhrs there instead of inside the wing. Doing wiring now on my 14a
I ended up building shelves under the space between the panel and subpanel using hinge material so they could be "drop-down", and a shelf in the space where the hole in the subpanel is. It was quite a bit of work. Retrospectively I wish I had delayed riveting in the top front skin to give better access to the space behind subpanel when installing avionics boxes.
The best setup I've seen for mounting boxes in the -14A is the way Aerotronics does it - they build a frame that mounts to the back of the panel around the opening for the EFIS displays. I think this is what Blake is describing.
I don't know how hard it would be to fabricate something like that yourself but it's very impressive.
Here's a photo example from the RV-14 Facebook group. Garmin avionics but the principle should be the same:
I use hinged trays that go from main panel to subpanel. Can put a lot of stuff on them. ADAHRS modules are in the back of the plane on their own shelf.
