One thing I've noticed since installing my D-180 about 4 years ago is that the artificial horizon is very instable in roll. Compared against my steam turn and bank indicator, the D-180 bounces all over the place when the airplane is in any kind of turbulence, and sometimes takes a long time to recover. I would perhaps use the word "undamped" to describe the behaviour.
I haven't bothered to do anything about it because I'm a VFR guy, but this year I've started digging into a few things that have been bothering me and making improvements.
Is this typical behaviour of the D-180? Thoughts?

Very atypical in my experience - we had the D-180 in Louise's RV-6 for several years, and I never saw it have any roll instability. Like Bill says - call Dynon and see what they say about it.
