Does anybody know why Van's spec.'s cotter keyed bolts for the Dyna-focal mounts?
The reason I ask is that recently JB Aircraft Engine Service of Sebring, Fl. had to remove the engine in my recently completed RV8 for a warranty issue.
They were wondering why I used cotter keyed bolts when most of the production planes they see have metal locknuts.

Lock nuts sure would be easier.

Why?

Hi, I was recently asked the same thing by a professional. He said most used metal-lock nuts rather then castle nuts and pins also. I agree, it would be easier,I don't know why van's does it this way. So does spruce - you order a dyna bolt set, and get drilled bolts and castle nuts!
