Any tricks for making the bushing block to fit between the horns for drilling the push rod attach holes? I am considering taking careful measurements of the space between the horns and having a local machine shop fab a nice steel block with both a #30 and a #40 hole. Might come in handy later. Other ideas/ways you guys have done it?

I tried hardwood

but not happy with the results. I like your steel idea better. Hard to get a perpendicular enough hole with a drill press. Better to use a mill...

I used your method and it worked great. I used aluminum though.
