Here's my method of mounting the HD170 camera on my RV-8:

I used the included handlebar mount and a couple of brackets made from an old marine aluminum GPS mount - pretty thick stuff - about 1/8 inch. The two screws holding the mount in place go into threaded holes in the nylon block at the front of the canopy track allowing easy removal of the bracket. The mount is far enough aft not to interfere with the passenger seat.

The arrangement provides a relatively vibration free mount and since it uses the handlebar mount the camera is adjustable in pitch and simply snaps in and out. The upper part of my bracket allows rotation in the yaw axis.

The remote works well with the camera in this position. My only complaint is the canopy reflection. I'm considering a tail mount but like having the camera inside out of the weather and with no possibility of aerodynamic interference.

Nice, Jim. My Drift 170HD just showed up yesterday, and I have to start playing around with various mounts. Your setup gives me a good place to start.

Didn't you get dizzy doing formation rolls in only one direction? :D

Practicing the "outside" position - next lesson will be the inside position.
