I countersunk all the holes in the E-602PP spar on the top just fine. To fit the dimple of the skin, they have slightly larger holes, but figure that's normal since it will be sandwitched between the skin and the trim tab hinge.

I dimpled the bottom of the spar, but I did a countersink on the last 3 holes. Since my squeezer wouldn't fit in there. I could have used the bench mounted female dimple die and whacked it with a mallet to form the dimple, but since the spar is thicker than a rib that I've done this with in the past, I figured it would have been a pain. Now I look at the countersunk holes and think I just removed too much good gripping meat for the rivet.
Is a small backing plate ok if I stick something in there to give it some thicker stuff to hang onto?

Thanks,
Tom

It should be, AS LONG as the backing plate doesn't interfere with anything. Best advice...when modifying any structural component...call Vans. Get advice from the ones that know.
