I am working on my HS for a -8. My question is the following: The plans show a few holes on the top skin of 801PP that will be used to attach the fiber glass fairing (between the VS and the HS), do I need to dimple those holes? Or do I just clean them and leave them alone. Maybe I did not read ahead enough.

Leave 'em...

You'll end up installing nutplates in those spots eventually - leave them alone for now, and you'll get back to them eventually!

I'm not suggesting that you do this but one thing I did when building my RV-7 elevators and rudder is that I drilled out and dimpled the last few tip attach holes near the trailing edges. After seeing how tight they were I figured that it'd be easier to do that now rather than after it's all riveted together. My tips aren't fitted so I don't know how it's going to work out yet.

Don't do this...follow the destructions...but it's what I did.

tip rivets

... and it was a good move too. On my -8A they were easy enough to dimple using vice grip dimpler, but an arse to set the rivets. Even blind rivets foul against each other.
