My neighbor has a Mustang II with a Lyc IO360 a1a angle valve engine. He purchased an overhauled cylinder with what looks like all paperwork, but its about 10 years old. It has no rust and looks good but I am concerned . I think it need a more recent inspection.

Is there a reputable shop that can do an inspection and charges for only necessary parts and labor ? At this time I don't see the point in a full blown, change everything overhaul. Seems kind of wasteful.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

I think it's probably fine

If it was yellow tagged 10 years ago it should be fine.

There are no parts that 10 years would hurt that I know of.

I would check for any AD notes.

Lynne,

I bought my engine with a fresh overhaul done in 1959. The engine was pickled and put in storage.

When I brought it home, I pulled the cylinders and inspected the crank, cam and cylinders for rust. Finding none, I just replaced all the rubber parts and hung the engine. With 100 hours on it since August, I can tell you there is nothing wrong with old metal!

That cylinder will be just fine.
