Typically, when installing a single CHT gage in the -8 with a O-360 normally aspirated motor, which cylender is the probe most commonly attached?

For now, just using a Van's single probe gage (yeah, I know).

Really?

How do you know? :D
Sometime it is. Sometimes its not. The fact is it vary on different engines, different installations, different power settings, altitudes, etc... etc...

Probably not the answer you want to here, but good engine instrumentation is very cost effective these days. Why not just instrument the aircraft so that you can KNOW what its doing instead of guessing.

Scott,

On my carburated RV7A the hotttest was cylinder was #3. I eventually installed washers behind cylinder #3, as described in the latest Vans baffle directions, and now all the cylinders balance within a few of degrees of each other.
