Cannot find any information on how or when to cut the bottom cowling for the exhaust? How much clearance do I need from the firewall? Clearance from the fiberglass cowling? Should the exhaust go straight to the rear or to the side? Vetterman exhaust. Mel
I didn't cut the cowling for the exhaust, just for the fit top/bottom and back. It did take a while to get the Vetterman brackets located so that the pipes went down and out the bottom, but for me (o-320) it fit.
You should not have to cut the cowling to fit the exhaust. It should fit through the opening if you tweak it to the proper position. The only trimming I did was about a half-inch just to clean it up and make the cowl aft edge flat.
