Looking at some substantial engine work in the near future and would like to know what's the best current path for crankcase exterior finish. Totally displeased with spray enamel I used 20 years ago. Used Cerakote 4, 5 years back and it held up pretty well. What's the latest concensus here? Is bare aluminum an option?

I've seen bare aluminum treated with alodine on some continental engines that seem to hold up well.
