I riveted the hinges onto the upper cowling for my -6A today and all went well except for one slip of the hand squeezer....I accidently squeezed one end of one eyelet shut on the side hinge, a little forward of half-way down the side of the cowl. Dumb mistake, but it's done and now I've got to fix it so I can get the hinge pin in.

I don't want to replace the entire hinge for this so am thinking I'll try using my Dremel tool to grind/cut off the crimped portion of the damaged eye then sand the edges best I can and leave it as is. I did put a layer of epoxy down prior to clecoing the hinge in place so it is bonded and riveted - would be a pain to remove at this point and I don't think removing is necessary for only one damaged eyelet.

Appreciate any thoughts or other suggestions on what to do with this!

I mean if you removed the whole eyelet would it make any difference?

I doubt it, so removing part of one should be even less of a big deal.

How about some spare hinge pin that's sharpened on the end, and a few inches longer than the distance to the hinge eye. Then knock it through the closed eyelet with a hammer!
