I am in process of installing the cowl on my RV-8 and will be using camloc fasteners at the firewall. I heard that with camlocs that you should anticipate a little movement of the cowl.

For those flying with a cowl/camloc setup what do you recommend for a gap between the firewall and the cowl?

I can go from 0 up to 1/8".

Thanks.

Gap

As close to zero as possible. I have too much gap on mine.I wish I had been more diligent.

I love the fasteners! When I watch my buds struggling with the wires and broken piano hinges, I am so glad I chose fasteners. I've already bought them for the RV-10 project.

I make the cowl as tight as possible and then when everything is done I make a gap the width of a hacksaw blade. The reason for this is to prevent the paint from chipping down the road after it is painted. By making the gap after it is completed you know exactly how wide it will end up being.

Gap

Thanks for the recommendations. Excellent idea about using a hacksaw blade to gap the openings.
