The hinges that join the upper (lower) cowl to the fuselage don't go all the way down (up) to the seam between the two halves. Because of this, the cowl halves are naturally bowing/bulging out near the seam. The hinge holding the two halfs together should eliminate a lot of this, but I anticipate some bulging here will still remain (since both upper and lower are doing it). How have others dealt with this? I'm thinking I could add a countersunk screw here, through the corner of the corner of one of the cowl halves, into a nutplate mounted to some metal tab that i could rivet to the firewall flange.

Hi Phil,

At this point I would start pulling a 60 grit piece of sand paper between the cowl halves. Work it front to back until you get a close fit between the sides. The side cowl pins slide all the way to the back and the lower side pin keeps the lower sides close. This means that the top will have to stay close and you shouldn't need a screw.
