In my efforts to cool down my IO360 RV7a this summer I had made sure that I had increased volume of air moving through the cowl. Now that its getting close to winter here in Canada I needed to create a "cold weather kit" that would slow down the volume of air moving through the cowl and therby keep the temps up where they needed to be. Here are some pictures of the little baffles that do the trick quickly, easily and cheaply. The beauty of these is that it is only fasten with one bolt and takes a minute to install/remove and you can use both or just one depending on the temps. The top is high enough to sit against the firewall and the bottom is flanged to maintain a reasonable seal with the air pressure.
Today it was -6c and these improved my oil temps 30F to 196F and brought the CHT's and EGTs up to where the engine was happier and the increased heater temps felt good. Now if I could just get all the drafts in the cabin sealed.....oh well, its only 7 more months till it warms up!
