Seems it might be nice to install an external speaker behind the panel for listening, headset free, while sitting in the cockpit learning all the new functions of glass panel, etc.

Anybody done this? Experience; recommendations?

RV7, PMA8000B, GRT EFIS, GNS430W, A210, GTX327.

Thanks,

If you've got a compass in the panel I think the magnet in the speaker would mess it up pretty good.

We put one in above the two front seats. It is just a small car speaker that I purchased at Walmart. I haven't been wearing headsets while taxiing around the tarmac and it is nice to hear all the airport ground activity.

I put a self contained Radio Shack speaker behind my seat, attached to the baggage area side panel.
I like it. You can get ATIS, etc. while getting things ready.

I decided to do it, because I was looking at a very popular RV6A that now has thousands of hours on it. He had installed a speaker, and liked the idea.

I put one in on the right side flap cover plate - the speaker is mounted flush and sits between the cover plate and the fuselage skin, just above the right-side bellcrank.

Have never really used it though in 400 hours.
